Career Opportunities

Facilities Technology Group began operations in the early 1990’s in Austin, Texas. Many of our original team members are still with us today. Why?

FTG is a dynamic place to work for individuals who enjoy an environment with energy, passion, commitment, integrity, and a distinct focus on delivering real value to their customers.

We are looking for self–motivated, intelligent team members who excel in their areas of expertise and are passionate about what they do – in a collaborative team setting. We pride ourselves in knowing the core healthcare facility business needs and meeting those needs with leading–edge applications and services.

FTG believes in work/life balance while meeting commitments to our customers and team members. We understand a "work hard, play hard" mentality that requires individuals to balance work and personal obligations. We also strive to offer solid benefits to care for you and your family.  In addition to health insurance for you and familiy members, we provide a flexible personal time off policy and retirement investment opportunities.

If this is an environment that you can contribute and thrive, now is the time to consider FTG as the next step in your personal development.

Job Openings:

Software Developer

We are looking for an experienced software developer with a solid background in web–based applications. The job is primarily new Rails development with a small amount of Java. We are specifically looking for someone who works very well in a small team environment – no rock stars need apply.  Our methodology is agile, test driven, and we relentlessly refactor.  We take a lot of pride in building great products and being able to look at the code and feel good. We pair program when appropriate – maybe 30% of the time.

We are open to someone who is not yet totally fluent in Ruby and/or Rails, if you have a strong software development background. But bear in mind that if you are still coming up to speed, we would expect you to be highly motivated and a quick learner. You must have at least spent enough time with Ruby and/or Rails on your own to know the basics, but maybe have not yet used it in a commercial application.   That’s fine – a few months with us and you´ll be flying.

Your most important characteristic to us is not how many details of Rails or metaprogramming that you know – it’s about having a strong practical sense of design for objects, algorithms and data structures, coupled with being a good communicator and team player. And if you are already strong in Rails – that’s even better.

An important aspect of the job (even though it´s not where you would spend most of your time) is that you would be the main person responsible for building and maintaining interfaces to a several Java classes that we need access to.  So in considering if you are right for this job, bear in mind that we assume you are a competent Java programmer.

Requirements

  • Bachelors / Masters in Computer Science
  • 5+ years experience developing web-based applications
  • Working knowledge of both Ruby and Rails.
  • Strong working knowledge of Java
  • Strong working knowledge of SQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • Comfortable in a Linux development environment
  • Experience in building multiple LAMP web-based  database-backed applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Rigorous and detail-oriented – you hold yourself (and us) to high standards
  • Experience building software using TDD or BDD

We are small, profitable, well–funded tech company located near UT in Austin. We specialize  on providing solutions to the healthcare market . This is a fulltime job with benefits and telecommuting is not an option.
